Discord Bot: Netflix vs YouTube

Video streaming services have exploded in popularity over the past few years. With so many different apps, websites, and devices to choose from, it can be tough to know which one is best for you. Video streaming services let you watch videos on demand — something that a lot of TV shows now offer as well. The digital revolution has completely transformed how we consume media — not just video, but content in general. In the last few years, many video streaming services have emerged to meet consumer demand for different types of content, from original series to movies and documentaries.

YouTube and Netflix are two of the most popular video streaming sites today; however, they cater to very different audiences. YouTube is a home base for millions of people who upload videos of their lives to share with friends and family, while Netflix is known as the home for viewers who like their entertainment with subtitles and high-quality productions.

What is a Discord?

First things first – what exactly is Discord? Discord is an online chat platform that lets you connect with other people and create groups to chat and message quickly. It is best suited for groups of people who want to chat with each other frequently. Why is it better than other chatting apps like Facebook Messenger, Google Hangouts, or any other platform? It is particularly great for gamers, as it provides easy access to in-game voice and text chat. And if you’re an anime or comic book fan, Discord can help you stay up to date on the latest news by letting you create a “channel” dedicated to your favorite topics.

How to Set Up a Discord Bot in 3 Steps

At its core, Discord is just a chat app with some extra features. That’s where the Discord Bot comes in. Basically, the Discord Bot is a program that you “program” to run specific commands and receive specific information. You can find tons of bots with custom commands for various services like Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Reddit, Twitch, and more. These bots can serve as interactive tools that help you stay up to date on the latest updates from various online ecosystems.

Netflix New Discord Bot Features

Netflix recently launched a new Discord bot “Hey, Netflix!.” However, it lacks the main feature which we all assumed that it will have. We can’t really host watch parties using this bot. The new Netflix Discord bot can only be used to find a movie or series that you and your server members can watch. It basically recommends shows and movies that you can watch on Netflix. Moreover, it also creates a new chat window/thread where you can talk about what you are going to watch without spoiling anyone else. You can import the Netflix Bot from Discordbotlist to your server.

  • Open the discordbotlist website.
  • Click on Add Hey, Netflix.
  • Choose the Discord server.
  • After importing the bot, type /heynetflix
  • Follow the instructions shown on the screen.

As mentioned above, you can’t host watch parties through this. For Watch Party, you can download the Netflix Party extension or Rave.

Discord Bot: Netflix vs YouTube

Discord recently added a new feature “Activities”. YouTube Watch Party is also a feature in those activities. You can join a voice channel and start a YouTube Watch Party and everyone can join and watch YouTube with you. However, not everything is available on YouTube. Netflix Discord Bot only recommends shows and makes a new thread where you can have conversations about the show or film. This new bot is pretty much useless compared to YouTube Activity.
