Back in 2019, Facebook announced that they are working on its very own Ready Player One Oasis. Ready Player One is a film that was released in 2018 in which a guy James Halliday design a Virtual Reality where you can go anywhere and do anything. Facebook Horizon works in a similar way, it is a virtual reality sandbox in which you can create your own environments and games or just explore the open world. It is pretty similar to Second Life, which is also a virtual world where users can create, play, and communicate with other players. Second Life was released back in 2003 and is still a thing.
What is Facebook Horizon?
Facebook Horizon is Facebook’s version of Second Life. It will allow users to design their own characters or avatars, which they can use to create and explore the virtual world, join the random communities and events, or make new friends. It can also be used to play games with strangers as well as friends, or watch a movie with them. “an ever-expanding universe of virtual experiences designed and built by the entire community.”
In Facebook Horizon, not only can you explore virtual worlds as they grow and change, but you can discover all sorts of new things that interest and inspire you.
How it works?
As mentioned above, it is Facebook’s version of Second Life. Before you can get started, you have to design your avatar/character, how you are going to look in the Virtual world e.t.c. After designing your character, you can use Horizon World Builder to create new environments, games, and spots. It’s pretty much drag-drop, no coding is required.
After creating, you can invite your friends there. It could be a virtual private beach or a house.
Anyone can dream, design and create in Horizon. Our intuitive tools are easy to pick up and learn, but offer challenge and depth for those who want to master them.
How to Join Invite-Only Facebook Horizon Public Beta
Facebook invites you to the virtual world. At OC6, they debuted the first look at Facebook Horizon. The current public beta allows you to become a part of early group of creators.
Horizon invites you to explore an ever-expanding universe of virtual experiences designed and built by the entire community. Everything you see in Horizon, including the Plaza and worlds created by our teams at Facebook, has been built with the Horizon creation tools. In Horizon, you can build the things you want to see and places you want to visit.
