How to Find Griffin in FF16?
Visit Hunt Board
In Final Fantasy 16, you can see monster locations on Nektar the Moogle’s Hunt Board. These are pretty vague to add a sense of ‘tracking down’ to your search. But helpful nonetheless.
Visit the Hunt Board in the Hideaway and ask Nektar about Griffin sightings. You’ll see a flyer from a concerned civilian order. It details how one of their members faced a sudden blast of wind and a terrible cry along the trail from Lostwing to Caer Norvent. Upon questioning the locals, he found out that the area was the nesting place of the elder Griffin named Dozmare.
Travel to Lostwing Obelisk
According to the Hunt Board, you can find the Griffin on the trail between Lostwing and Caer Norvent. To search this trail, you must first travel to the Lostwing Obelisk. This is in the Holy Empire of Sanbreque.
Head to Caer Norvent River Gate
Now, the flyer said Lostwing to Caer Norvent, but that’s actually a bit misleading. This is because the Griffin is on the path to the side of Caer Norvent and not the main entrance.
To get to it, make your way southeast from the Lostwing Obelisk. Go through the Norvent Valley to reach the Caer Norvent River Gate. If you have a mount, use it to make this journey faster. You’ll encounter enemies on the way, but it’s better to push past them.
Find the Griffin Dozmare
As you head southeast towards the Caer Norvent River Gate, you’ll come across the West wall of Caer Norvent. This is Dozmare Griffin’s location. You’ll see a cutscene here showing Dozmare sitting on top of the castle wall. He will then drop from his perch, and you’ll have to fight.
Tips to Use Hunt Board to Locate Griffin
Talk to August in the Hideaway during the Here Be Monsters main quest. This begins the Blacksmith Blues side quest. In this, you have to hunt down Dozmare to track down the craftsman Kamil. This way, you’ll be rewarded extra for completing the Griffin hunt.
You get 650 EXP, 55 Ability Points, 1 Meteorite, and 1 Scarletite for defeating Dozmare. And an extra 250 EXP, 10 Renown, and the Drakeslayer’s Belt Design Draft for completing the Blacksmith Blues side quest.
