Fortnite is finally available on Google Play Store

Fortnite was released for mobile-phones back in 2018 but it was only downloadable through their website. After two years, it is finally available on Google Play Store. Fortnite was never published on Google Play Store because of the 30% sales that Google took through in-app purchases. They never wanted to publish it on Google Store. However, they were forced to do so because Google introduced new security measures in Android phones that prevent smartphones from downloading applications from third-party sources. According to Epic Games, developer of Fortnite:

Google puts software downloadable outside of Google Play at a disadvantage through technical and business measures such as scary, repetitive security pop-ups for downloaded and updated software, restrictive manufacturer and carrier agreements and dealings

Epic Games is not happy with this decision, but they don’t have any other chance. But it is proving to be a good decision since more users are installing Fortnite now.

Google Play Store now has upper hand over third party Android App Stores and has finally forced them to sign-up for Google Play Developer account by paying. This step was also necessary since most of the Android users download applications from non-reputable sources and end up getting malware on their devices. Apple also doesn’t allow iOS users to install third-party applications either and also takes a 30% sales cut. Epic Games were forced to publish it on Apple’s Store too.

We hope that Google will revise its policies and business dealings in the near future, so that all developers are free to reach and engage in commerce with customers on Android and in the Play Store through open services, including payment services, that can compete on a level playing field,
