There is going to be another hit show in the DC universe “Peacemaker”. The news about the show was first revealed at the DC Fandome event. The show is based on James Gunn’s spin-off “The suicide squad”. The show will focus on the character from the movie “Peacemaker” played by John Cena. James Gunn came up with the script of the show during the pandemic. James Gunn revealed in a tweet that he pitched the idea to HBO Max. He wrote this in the tweet;
“I was quarantined and having anxiety and post on TSS was mostly done and didn’t fill my time,” he wrote on Twitter. He wrote the entire plot as a creative outlet and didn’t think much about the outcome. However, HBO Max was ready to take the talks to the storyboards”
James Gunn worked on “Peacemaker” while he was still working on “The suicide squad ” and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. James Gunn will start working with Marvel Cinematic Universe after he is done with his DC projects.
Peacemaker Release Date
Peacemaker will release on HBO Max on 13 January. However, the release date is for US only. James Gunn revealed in a tweet that HBO Max is working to release the show in the UK but there might be a slight delay.
Where to watch “Peacemaker”?
HBO Max is only available in North America. US viewers can buy the ad-free subscription of the streaming service for 14.99 dollars and they can ad-supported service for 9 dollars. However, Uk viewers will have to watch the show on Sky or Now.
Plot
The series will take place after the suicide squad movie. In the movie, Peacemaker kills Rick flags after he tries to release the information about Project starfish and experimentation on the children to the public. Ratcatcher tries to stop Peacemaker by stealing the drive. But, Peacemaker tries to kill her too. However, bloodsport saves Ratcatcher and shoots Peacemaker. The peacemaker then is saved by Amanda Waller. The post-credit scene reveals that Peacemaker is still alive.
The series will focus on Peacemaker’s character. The peacemaker is loyal to the Government and he will do anything to fulfill his orders even if it involves betraying his friends. The show will also focus on his relationship with his father. James Gunn described the character in an interview with Empire;
Peacemaker has a clear set of ideals that I find really interesting… You know: ‘I want peace no matter how many men, women, and children I need to kill to get it.’ Sounds like nonsense, but it also makes a lot of sense. And you see in John’s performance how he does not feel good about it – something I thought was the seed of an entire eight-episode show.”
The producer of the show Matt Miller described the show as the office but with superheroes. The show will be dark and will have a lot of humor.
