Mortal Kombat is coming to the big screens this year. The 90’s hit video-game has a huge fan-base. Hollywood tried to make several Mortal Kombat movies back in the ’90s but all those movies failed to make their mark. Fans and critics have high hopes for the upcoming Warner Bros movie. The movie is also going to be released on “HBO MAX“. The pandemic has affected the film business as well. Warner Bros also released “Justice League” Snyder’s cut on the platform.

The video-game is one of the most iconic games from the 90s. According to the producer of the movie Todd Garner, it took them 7 years to create the movie. The movie matches the tone of the iconic video game.
“Every single fight in this movie has its own personality,” explains Garner. “And it’s true to not only the game, but it’s true to the character. I can’t tell you who’s fighting, but there’s one of the most brutal fights I’ve ever seen on film. And it’s the most violent hand-to-hand, insane fight, and it’s not who you would expect to have the fight.”
The video-game made a lot of noises back in the 90s due to its graphic depictions of violence and gore. “Fatality” showed violent graphic finishing scenes. The fatality scenes made the game famous among teens. It was also censored back in the 90s as well. One of the toughest tasks for the movie creators was to create fighting sequences that are true to the video game.
Plot
The Mortal Kombat plot is based on Mortal Kombat’s video-game. The movie will explore the background and history of each character. The synopsis of the movie from Warner Bros is:
“MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage—or why Outworld sorcerer Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down.
Fearing for his family’s safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high-stakes battle for the universe.

The movie will be released on April 16 , 2021. The movie is going to be released in theatres and on HBO Max as well.
