Up till now, Instagram users could only search using Account name, place, or a hashtag. However, recently Facebook announced that Instagram Search is getting an upgrade in a few English-speaking countries like the US, UK, and Canada. Keyword Search is a special way of searching using only a specific “word” which will show you the relevant results. Google Search works in a similar way, you type a specific keyword and it displays the relevant results. Before this announcement, Instagram users used to search using the hashtags like #Covid19 in order to find any post related to it. If the post you were looking for had the #Covid19 hashtag on it, it would be displayed in the search result.
Keyword Search will make searching on Instagram a lot easier than before. Recently, Instagram came up with a new update “Facebook Messenger and Instagram Cross-App Communication“. This feature allows users to cross-communicate between Instagram and Facebook Messenger. Moreover, another amazing feature of Instagram came up with is “Vanishing Mode”. If this mode is activated messages will be deleted upon closing the chatbox. According to Verge, a spokesperson said:
The search is limited to general interest topics and keywords that are within Instagram’s community guidelines,

There is no news about the “Keyword Search” on the Instagram Official Blog yet. However, Verge also wrote:
My keyword search is already live, and I’m unable to search for “vaccines,” “QAnon,” or even “Trump” or “Biden.” I can search “puppies,” “pasta,” or “flowers,” however. The search is definitely limited. Still, for the seemingly few benign things people can search for, the keywords are useful and will likely help users find new content that better fits what they want.
