Netflix has renewed Narcos Mexico for a third season. However, they are making some major changes in the series in the upcoming season. The first season of Narcos Mexico was released back in 2018 and the latest season arrived on Netflix this year back in February. The series was originally intended to be the fourth season of Narcos but later it was developed as the companion series. It was created and produced by Chris Brancato, Carlo Bernard, and Doug Miro.
Narcos Mexica focused on the illegal drug trade in Mexico while Narcos was centered in Colombia. On 28th October 2020, Netflix confirmed Narcos Mexico is returning with a third season. Season 2 of the series ended with Felix’s arrest as a signal by the Mexican government to end the drug trafficking in Mexico. Diego Luna played the role of Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, the founder of Guadalajara Cartel. However, Diego Luna won’t be reprising his role in the Narcos Mexico Season 3 because he is set to reprise his role in Disney+’s Star Wars spinoff series Rogue One. Moreover, showrunner Eric Newman is also stepping aside. He has served Narcos for three seasons and Narcos Mexico for two seasons. Back in February, after the release of Season 2, Eric Newman said to Hollywood Reporter:
As I always say, we’ll go on as long as they let us and as long as the drug war rages — which, as you know, there is no end in sight. But I would be lying if I said I hadn’t put quite a bit of thought into where we would go. I’ve always had a pretty fair idea of where we end up. That’s about all I can say about season three. But it’s definitely something that we’re actively discussing internally.
He also said:
I am grateful for my five years at the helm of Narcos and Narcos: Mexico and am immensely proud of what this spectacular team has achieved with these shows. Carlo Bernard is the first person I ever spoke to about this project, over ten years ago, and I am extremely pleased to leave the steering of Season 3 of Narcos: Mexico in his very capable hands.

Wagner Moura, who played the role of Pablo Escobar in the Narcos series will be directing two episodes of Narcos Mexico upcoming season.
Release Date
Netflix just confirmed the renewal of third season. There is no news about the release date of the upcoming season yet. The cast that will be returning in the season 3 are as follows:
