Netflix recently released Day Shift starring Jamie Foxx. The film is doing well on the streaming platform and it is trending in the top 10 in many countries. The film received mostly positive reviews from both critics and the audience. The movie is about a pool cleaner who also hunts vampires for extra cash. According to Netflix, the synopsis reads:
“The film follows a hard-working blue-collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters,”
The cast of the movie also includes Dave Franco, Snoop Dog, Meagan Good, Natasha Liu, and Karla Souza.
Netflix usually announces sequels and renewals if the project does well on the streaming platform. But, it is not confirmed whether Netflix will release a sequel or not. The movie is produced by Chad Stahelski, director of John Wick.
Dave Franco wants a Day Shift Sequel
Dave Franco who plays “Seth” in the film and ends up being a vampire by the end of the film also wants a Day Shift Sequel. Franco revealed what he wants from the sequel in an interview with ComingSoon;
“We want to make as many of these as possible, and without giving too much away, by the end, we’re a team together,” Franco said. “So, to be able to start a new one where we’re hitting the ground running, and I can be in on the action from the get-go. That sounds like a blast for me.
Jamie Foxx also told ScreenRant his thoughts about a sequel:
We talked last night about it and we got some great ideas,” he told Screen Rant. “It’s not always normal for Netflix to do part twos, they don’t always do it, but we feel like with this one, we got a great chance on how everybody’s responding to it already. So I think we’ll definitely try to make it happen and I think if they do, it’ll be even better.”
Fans also praised Snoop Dog’s character “Big John Elliot” aka El Jefe in the movie. Big John’s character helped Bud Jablonski to save his family and ends up becoming a vampire. However, his transformation into a vampire can be a plot for the sequel. Also, J.J Perry revealed his inspiration for the character and how he wanted to use the rapper’s real name:
“My whole pitch to him was: I’ll make you an action star, brother. I said, ‘Look, I don’t want Snoop to be Big John. I’m hiring Calvin Broadus to play Big John, who was inspired by my platoon sergeant.’ And Snoop said, ‘Well, my father was in Vietnam.’ My dad was in the Army too, so we had this common thread. I said, basically, ‘I want you to play your father,’ because his father was Southern. I said I want to take away all of that L.A. swagger and give you more of a country swagger.”
Fans took to Twitter to give their reactions and reviews. One fan wrote, “Seeing Scott Adkins is always a pleasure want a spin-off with the brothers #DayShift.“
Another fan wrote “#DayShift Was a lot funnier than I expected. Really hoping for a sequel, we need more of the Nazarian Bros!”
