Netflix’s next biggest project is set to release this month “SpiderHead”. Netflix Spiderhead movie is based on the short story “Escape from Spiderhead” by George Saunders. Saunders has written eleven books and also won the 2017 Man Booker Prize for best work of fiction in English. The writer often writes about work and despair in society.
The film is direct by Joseph Kosinski, he is also known for directing Top Gun: Maverick which proved to be a box office hit. The upcoming movie is the first-ever Netflix project for Kosinski.
Cast
The film has a stellar cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, it is his second project with the streaming giant. Hemsworth will play “Steve Abnesti“, a scientist who performs different experiments on inmates at a penitentiary. Joseph Kosinski said this about Hemsworth’s character;
“He is the genius visionary behind the whole Spiderhead program, he has noble intentions, but there are some darker things lurking underneath the surface with him.”
Miles Teller plays “Jeff” in the movie. Teller and Kosinski have worked before with each other on Top Gun: Maverick. Teller said this about his character in EW;
Jeff works closely with, and sort of forms a friendship with, Abnesti.
Kosinski also shared his thoughts about Jurnee Smollett’s character inmate “Lizzy”, he said this;
“She has a more mysterious past, she is drawn to Jeff, and they have a very close relationship, but where he kind of wears his heart on his sleeve she hides her pain with a cheerful persona.”
Other cast members include Tess Haubrich, BeBe Bettencourt, Mark Paguio, Sam Delich, Joey Vieira, Daniel Reader, Ron Smyck, and Stephen Tongun.
Plot
According to Netflix the synopsis of the movie is;
A prisoner in a state-of-the-art penitentiary begins to question the purpose of the emotion-controlling drugs he’s testing for a pharmaceutical genius. In the film, the two inmates played by Miles Teller & Jurnee Smollett, form a connection while grappling with their pasts in a penitentiary run by a brilliant visionary (Chris Hemsworth) who experiments on his subjects with mind-altering drugs.
