The Sandman Season 2 Release Date, Cast, and Plot

Last week, Netflix’s new series “The Sandman” hit the streaming platform. The series is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman. The graphic novel has a huge fan base and fans of the comics had doubts about Netflix’s adaptation but it seems like the show is doing good on the streaming platform. Also, Neil Gaiman revealed why he waited for 33 years to bring “The Sandman” to the big screens in his interview with The Wrap;

Mostly, people just talked about making ‘Sandman’ movies where you are trying to figure out the problem of taking 3,000 pages of story and telling it in 120 minutes, which is an awful lot like trying to put the ocean into a pint glass,”

He also praised Netflix:

“Now, we’re in a world in which we have Netflix, We have the various other streamers with budgets and a will to make things that are fabulous. And they have been incredibly supportive of ‘Sandman’ all the way and now we are getting to show people what we’ve made.”

The show is being praised for sticking to the source material. The series is also trending at number one in several countries and has an 7.7 rating on IMDb.

The Sandman Season 2 Release Date, Cast, and Plot

The Sandman Season 2 Release Date

Netflix has not announced anything about the renewal of The Sandman for Season 2. Also, it depends upon the watch time of the series. It is too early to say anything about the watch time of the series yet as it has only been released a week ago. However, fans and critics are praising the show and it has an 85% score on rotten tomatoes. Netflix might announce the news about season 2 in their upcoming Tudum event on September, 24.

Allan Heinberg, the showrunner of the series told Rolling Stones that the creators are already planning for season 2:

“Well, we had a writer’s room for 20 weeks to talk about Season Two and to break stories and generate outlines and first drafts. And now I’m having early talks with production design and VFX and getting everything into position, so that if we are lucky enough to have a Season Two, we’re ready to go, ideally with the same team who made Season One.”

So, if Netflix gives the creators the green light, fans might get season 2 sooner than expected.

Plot

Season one of the show only covered 400 pages of a 3000-page arc. Season one covered Preludes and Nocturnes” and “The Doll’s House” and there is a lot of material left. However, Season 2 of the series might be about “Season of the mist” the fourth volume of The Sandman. In the fourth volume of the comics, all of Dream’s siblings except “Destruction” gather for an Endless family meeting, and Dream is teased by his sibling “Desire” for banishing his lover “Nada” to hell. However, Dream decides to rescue Nada but ends up with the responsibility of “Hell” as Lucifer is tired of the duty and hands his realm to Dream.

Heinberg hinted that we might be getting another Dream VS Lucifer duel in season 2;

“The end of episode one, if we move forward, is Dream saying to Matthew, ‘I’m going to Hell and I may not come back, So then episode two begins with the rematch between Dream and Lucifer. It’s so juicy! I’m so looking forward to doing something entirely different with Gwendoline’s look. I don’t want to spoil the surprises for people who haven’t read Season of Mists, but that’s where Dream’s trouble really begins.”

Cast

All the characters that survived last season will return for the upcoming season. Nada (Deborah Oyelade) and Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie) will also appear in season 2.
