There are a lot of rumors going on the Social Media that The Vampire Diaries Season 9 is happening. The show has a total of 8 seasons released yet and the show was concluded in Season 8 by showing a fast-forward scene of Elena finally being at Peace. The show ended in 2017. Also, it’s spin-off “The Originals” also ended on August 1, 2018. However, another spin-off is going on that is based on Klaus’s daughter, a Tribrid, and Salvatore School for the young and gifted.
After searching for a while, we couldn’t get our hands on an authentic source that suggests the show is being renewed. So, let’s go with the rumors. According to rumors, The Vampire Diaries Season 9 is happening. However, Ian Somerhalder declined to be cast in the new season. Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev were in a relationship when the show was ongoing. They broke up which made working together in the show very awkward for both casts. However, they managed to pull this off. The Vampire Diaries is a flame from the past for him. Nina Dobrev also declined to join the cast again. Paul also declined.

Rumors suggest that they are going for fresh new cast considering many original actors declined to work. The Vampire Diaries got this much fame because of Ian and Nina, we don’t think they can pull this off without them. Honestly, I am not going to bother watching it without them. Besides, what’s the point? The show ended. Stefan died. Caroline(Candice King) barely shows up on Legacies. We don’t think she is going to join the cast either.

If we look into facts and figures, after 3 years they are renewing the show? When there is already a spin-off ongoing. They can show old cast in it, Matthew Davis is already in Legacies cast as Alaric Saltzman, we saw Zach Roerig as Matt Donovan in Legacies too. The Vampire Diaries is also removed from Netflix in many countries.
We don’t believe the show is going to return. Don’t get your hopes up. They are playing with your emotions.
