Will Lockwood & Co. return for season 2 on Netflix?

Lockwood & Co. is a new British supernatural series that was released on Netflix in January 2022. The show is based on a book series by Jonathan Stroud and has received mostly positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. Despite this, there are concerns about whether or not the show will be renewed for a second season. In this blog post, we’ll take a closer look at the show and discuss the possibility of a season 2.

Although Lockwood & Co. received positive reviews, it did not perform as well as other similar titles on Netflix, such as Wednesday, The Midnight Club, and Stranger Things. Additionally, there was a significant drop in viewership three weeks after the show’s release. Given Netflix’s history of canceling shows with strong audience ratings, such as Resident Evil, Warrior Nun, The Imperfects, and First Kill, there is a possibility that Lockwood & Co. may not be renewed for a second season.

Release Date

It is currently unknown when season 2 of Lockwood & Co. will be released, as Netflix has not announced anything about its renewal status. Joe Cornish, the show’s director, attended a meeting with Netflix but decided not to go to additional meetings. However, if Netflix decides to renew the series, season 2 might be available on the streaming platform in 2024.

“… I’m not going to get caught up in the whole, “Is there/isn’t there going to be a Season 2?” We drive ourselves crazy. We just have to be super proud of what we’ve done. We really appreciate the fact, particularly, that fans of the book are recognizing the world that was in their imagination up on the screen. I just want to be proud and happy for the actors, for all the incredible technicians, everybody who worked on the show that made it good, and that so many people dig it.”

Plot

If season 2 happens, it will follow the plot of the third book. There are many questions that need to be answered, including the mystery of Lockwood’s parents’ deaths and what is behind the door that was locked for the entire first season. Ruby Stokes, who plays Lucy on the show, believes that the door’s contents should be left up to interpretation. Season 2 should also address the mystery of the “Bone Mirror,” which Lucy believes has trapped the spirits of Dr. Edmund Bickerstaff’s victims.

“I haven’t heard of any theories, but I have seen people, even some who have read the books, say they want to leave it up to interpretation. I haven’t read the theories either because even as I was reading the books, like going from Book One to Two, I enjoyed that moment of not knowing what’s next.”

Conclusion

Although Lockwood & Co. received positive reviews, its performance on Netflix was not as strong as other similar titles, and there was a significant drop in viewership after its release. Given Netflix’s history of canceling shows with strong audience ratings, there is a possibility that Lockwood & Co. may not be renewed for a second season. If season 2 does happen, it will follow the plot of the third book, and there are many questions that need to be answered, including the mystery of the locked door and the Bone Mirror.
