Army Of The Dead was first announced back in 2008. It was supposed to be a sequel to 2004’s Dawn of the dead. But Warner Bros and the creators did not show any interest in the project. But, in 2019 director Zack Snyder took over the project. The movie is planned to be released on Netflix. Zack Snyder also wrote the script for the upcoming movie along with Shay Hatten and Joby Harold.
Army Of The Dead Release Date
Army Of The Dead is all set to release in the May of 2021. The filming of the movie was also delayed to the corona-virus pandemic. That is why the creators opted for Netflix release instead of releasing the movie in the cinemas. A lot of movies released on Netflix this year were originally created for the cinemas.
Zack Snyder gave the Army Of The Dead idea to Warner Bros back in 2008. But Warner Bros did not like the idea and did not show any interest in the creation of the movie. Netflix liked the idea of the Army of the dead.
Zack told E! online:
“We were in a meeting at Netflix and I was talking about some of these scripts I was working on,” Snyder recalls. “And I mentioned the idea to [Netflix head of original films Scott Stuber] and he was like, ‘That is the movie! Go write that movie and let’s make it.’ I was like, ‘What, do you mean now?’ And he’s like, ‘Go write it tomorrow and we’ll do shoot it in a week.'”
Plot
The movie is about a heist. This twist makes the movie more interesting and fun to watch than the past one. Police and Government were successful to keep the virus in Sin City. But, there are millions of dollars left in the casinos. A group of people will go into Sin City to get the cash and other valuable things in the abandoned city. Zack Snyder said this an interview:
“It is a full-blown, balls-to-the-wall zombie heist movie, so it’s genre-on-genre in a great way, So you expect pure zombie mayhem, and you get that, 100 percent. But also you get these really amazing characters on a fantastic journey. It’s going to surprise people that there’s a lot of warmth and real emotion with these great characters.”
Prequel Anime Series
Netflix is also working on a prequel anime series based on the upcoming film. These anime series will explain the origin of the movie as well. Not only anime series, but there is also going to be a game based on the plot of the movie.
“I’ve done a very deep dive with the why of the zombie plague and where it starts,” Snyder says. “Sufficed to say, that it does come from Area 51 — that’s in the film’s opening scene – and then the whole cast is in the animated series, along with Christian Slater as the bad guy. We really do a super deep dive on where this like zombie plague came from.”
Army Of The Dead Cast
Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell , Ana de la Reguera , Garret Dillahunt, Raúl Castillo, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Huma Qureshi, Nora Arnezeder and more are going to be part of this project.
