Get the quest from Magdalena
You’ll find the NPC Magdalena in Nevesk. She’s marked on the map with a blue exclamation mark. To get there, make your way to the Nevesk Waypoint. Then head east so you’re in the southern part of Kyovashad. Here you’ll find Magdalena looking for something outside of a chapel.
Talk to her and she will tell you a priest hired her to look for the axe of “the woodsman”. But she’s having trouble finding it and doesn’t want to do the work to track it down. Instead, she’s willing to cut you in on the reward if you’re willing to help her. Accept and you will get the side quest “The Woodsman of Nevesk”.
Locate the Axe
Once you agree to help Magdalena find The Woodsman’s Axe, you’ll see a marked search area on the map. It covers the area just east of Nevesk. Head towards it, going around any enemy mobs to avoid unnecessary delays. Once you’re in the search area, head to the northernmost edge to narrow down your search.
The axe can be tricky to find since it isn’t marked, doesn’t have an objective marker, and doesn’t glow or otherwise attract attention. Instead, you must look for an axe stuck in a blood-soaked tree stump along the northern end of the search area. The blood and gore surrounding the weapon help you identify it as the woodsman’s axe.
Fight the Woodsman
Interacting with the axe spawns the Elite monster, The Woodsman. You must defeat him before you’re able to claim the axe and take it back. The massive demon wields a two-handed mace. Luckily, he’s powerful but slow and not as durable as he may seem.
The Woodsman’s got a few Affixes as an elite enemy but is otherwise pretty easy to defeat. Affixes are modifiers added to Items like Weapons and Armor. Elite enemies in Diablo 4 have different Affixes that can make this fight a bit more challenging. Once The Woodsman dies, he drops The Woodsman’s Axe.
Return to Magdalena
After beating The Woodsman, pick up the axe it drops. Take this axe with you and return to Magdalena in Nevesk. The best way to do this is via the waypoint to Nevesk. Once you get to Magdalena, speak to her. She’s spooked by the whole affair and wants to ditch the weapon as soon as possible.
But she doesn’t forget her promise to share the spoils. The rewards for this quest include Gold, XP, Renown, and 80 Obols. You also get a Murmuring Cache.
