How to Fly In Starfield?

Just from reading the title, you might find it funny, but Flying in Starfield is fairly complicated, as you are traversing from one planet to another on your ship.

To help you through the process, we separated the Flying Process into various Steps. We will go through them one by one, so stick to find out the details.

Space Travel With Controller

Flying with a controller is by far the easiest thing you can do, in contrast to flying with Mouse and Keyboard.

You can move around using the right analog stick and to roll left/right, you need to move around the left analog stick. But to change your Flying Speed, you need to move onwards with the right analog stick, and then move the left analog stick up and down, instead of left and right.

If you press the Left Analog Stick, you will get a boost as well. You can use the Directional Pads to move left and right and choose a parameter to increase and then press up and down to both increase or decrease the amount of power you are putting into it.

As you increase the speed, you will find it harder to turn around, so that is also something to keep in mind here.

  • Use the Right Trigger for Lasers
  • The Left Trigger is for Ballistic
  • Finally, use Y to utilize the Missiles in Combat

Go into your Starfield Settings and from there to Bindings to change things around or learn more controls there.

Space Travel with Keyboard and Mouse

The story is fairly similar with a Mouse and Keyboard as well. But here, you will be using your Boosters with Shift Button. Switch the Flight Modes with the Spacebar. To Fire weapons, you use the Mouse, 1, 2, and G.

The Ship Action is R, and select a target with E. Finally, Up, Down, Left and Right will help you control your system power.

If you want to repair it, you can use your D button as well. To go left, right, up, and down, you have to use the Mouse, just like you used your Right Controller Stick. To Barrel Roll Left and Right, you will have to use your A and D buttons.

To increase or decrease the speed, you will have to utilize your W, and S keys on the Keyboard and mouse.

  • Use Mouse 1 to Shoot Lasers
  • Use Mouse 2 to Shoot Ballistics
  • For Missiles, use G on the Keyboard

This is fairly complex on a Keyboard and Mouse, but you can change these around in the Bindings Settings.

Fast Travel in Starfield

Honestly, flying around in your spaceship is fun and all, but you will most likely be using that Fast Travel Method to get to locations quickly. It can be done by accessing the missions in the Missions Tab, choosing those Missions, and then choosing “Show on the Map” or “Set as your Route”.

After that, you can open the map and see that the Selected Mission is appearing there. You can then choose that location as a means of Fast Travel. The button will be shown that you need to hold and then you will quickly travel to that specific location yourself, automatically.

Fast Travel in Starfield

After the Space Ship Grav Jumps to the location, you need to again open the map, and find the surface area of that Planet. It is the Starmap Method to Fast Travel in Starfield. Zoom out a bit using your B Button, and then you can press and hold the key to land in the area.

You also don’t have to move in between planets yourself, as you can open the Star Map, zoom out, select the planet of your choice, and do the same as you just did. It will fast-travel to that specific planet in the solar system.

How to Modify/Upgrade Ship in Starfield

Space Combat

Now that you know how to Travel in Starfield, you need to learn about Space Combat as well. As a starter, you don’t have to indulge in combat as of now, because you will have to spend some resources to get Ship Upgrades.

First of all, you need to talk to a Ship Service Technician. You can find one next to the docking port, just like in the image below. You can select the second and third options here. Second for ship upgrades and third to buy some ships.

For the dog fights, you need to upgrade your ship shields and weapons specifically.

After you get into the ship modification, you need to simply select the parts of the ship that you have to modify. Then you can confirm the modification.

Now, you need to select the appropriate mission that helps you get into a Dog Fight. There are a few things you need to remember;

  • Always make sure you use Boosters to get behind ships
  • Keep your pace fast, but slow it down to maneuver around
  • Barrel Roll left and right to confuse the other ships

Your Health is in the Bottom Right-hand corner, and you need to make sure it is always in good shape.
