The Tempered Vest or Tempered Plate Carrier is undoubtedly one of the most powerful and popular vests in Call of Duty: DMZ right now. Also a part of the previous Warzone, it allows players to reach their full armor potential using just two plates instead of the usual three. But as powerful as this vest is, it is also one of the most difficult to get.
In this blog post, we will cover all the different ways you can get your own Tempered Vest in COD DMZ.

Kill the Pyro Commander
One reliable way of getting the Tempered Vest for free is to kill the Pyro Commander in Al Mazrah City. The Pyro appears at random in one of three locations: the Control Tower at Al Malik Airport, the Post Office in Al Mazrah City, or the US Embassy in the same city. Visit all three of these until you get a prompt that the Pyro Commander is nearby.
Once you find the Pyro Commander, you will need a Skeleton Key or the specific key for the locked area to enter. This boss is one of the toughest in the game and is surrounded by tough enemy AI, so definitely bring a squad along if possible.
If you’re able to successfully clear the enemy AI and defeat the Pyro Commander and his fiery Dragon’s Breath shotgun and riot shield, you will be rewarded with at least one (and often two) Tempered Vest.
Barter at a Buy Station
The second, arguably easier way of getting a Tempered Vest is through the game’s recently introduced Barter system. You can’t use the money to buy this vest, but you can trade other valuables to craft it in exchange.
Complete the Tempered Vest Recipe
To barter for the powerful Tempered Vest, you will need the following items:
- Sensitive Documents # 1
- Classified Documents # 1
- Documents # 2
Luckily, all three of these can be found across both the Al Mazrah and Ashika Island maps. The Sensitive and Classified Documents can be rare finds, but appear more frequently in Strongholds, landmarks, and locked loot locations and containers.
Visit Ashika Island
Once you complete the Tempered Vest recipe, you can head over to the Buy Stations on Ashika Island. These allow players to craft the Tempered Vest in exchange for the previously mentioned items, an option unavailable in Al Mazrah City.
The Tempered Vest in COD DMZ is one of the most sought-after pieces of equipment due to its improved plate efficiency. To get your own Tempered Vest, you can either find and kill the Pyro Commander or barter for it at the Buy Stations on Ashika Island. Whichever method you choose, we hope this guide helps you feel more confident about your chances of success. That said, happy gaming, and good luck!
