How to Get Magma Storm in Pokemon Go

What Is Magma Storm?

First introduced in the Platinum version of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, Magma Storm is one of Heatran’s signature moves. This Fire-type Charged move summoned a tornado of magma and was exclusive to Heatran.

Now, the signature attack has been introduced to Pokemon Go. The move was first spotted on June 22nd, 2023, in the game data of update 0.275. And has been available to players since June 29, 2023.

How To Get Magma Storm?

To get a magma storm in Pokemon Go, participate in the five-star raids taking place from June 29 to July 6 (10am). Five-star raids are raids featuring Legendary Pokémon you can’t get anywhere else in the game. Once you beat these Legendaries, you get a chance to catch them.

The five-star raids from June 29 to July 6 feature Heatran. Out of these, July 2 (8pm) marks the end of the Dark Flames event. Any Heatran caught before this time will have the exclusive move Magma Storm pre-learned. It is uncertain if the Heatran caught after the Dark Flames event ends will know this exclusive move.

Other than raids, there is one more way to get the magma storm for your Heatran. Using an Elite Charged TM.

Magma Storm Stats

When battling PvE, magma storm has the following stats:

  • 75 Base Power
  • 30 Damage Per Second
  • 2.27 Damage per Energy
  • 1.30s Damage Window
  • 2.50s Move Cooldown
  • 33 Energy Requirement

When battling PvP, magma storm has the following stats:

  • 65 Base Power
  • -40 Charge Energy
  • 1.63 Damage per Energy
  • 40 Energy Requirement

Should You Get Magma Storm in Pokemon Go?

Based on the above stats, Magma Storm is a solid choice for Heatran in both PvP and PvE battles. A 65-damage attack for 40 energy is not the highest possible damage, but it is a decent trade-off. And although the move is better for PvP battles, it is also effective during PvE Raids. This is because it lets you dish out heavy damage early in the fight and wear down your opponent’s shield.

Compared to Heatran’s previous charged attacks, Magma Storm is excellent in the Master League or against other legendary Pokemon in five-star raids. It is also Heatran’s cheapest charged attack.

Conclusion

To get a Heatran with magma storm, you need to beat and catch a Heatran in five-star raids from June 29 to July 2. On July 2 (8pm) the Dark Flames event ends. It may be possible to get a Heatran with a magma storm even after that till July 6, but we can’t be sure.

You can also make your Heatran learn magma storm using an Elite Charged TM. We hope this article on How to Get Magma Storm in Pokemon Go helps. As always, happy gaming!
