What are the Wyrmway Puzzles And Legend Of Ansur?

Ansur is a Wyrm in Baldur’s Gate 3. You encounter this legendary creature as the culmination of Wyll’s companion quest, Blade of Frontiers. But you can’t get to him right away. You must solve four Wyrmway Puzzles first.

Keep in mind that Wyll and Mizora must survive, and you must rescue Wyll’s father, Duke Ravengard to get to this point in the storyline. The last part is especially important, as it’s Ravengard who tells you about Ansur.

How to Complete the Wyrmway Puzzles?

Enter the Wyrmway

To complete the Wyrmway Puzzles, you must first find and enter the hidden passage known as the Wyrmway. To do this, make your way to the Wyrm’s Rock Fortress. If Gortash is aware of your plans, you’ll find several Flaming Fist soldiers defending the fortress.

Defeat them and head inside towards Wyrm’s Rock Prison. You can reach the prison via the large room with the waypoint. Inside, you’ll find a set of stairs leading down to the lower section. Turn left at the first turn. You’ll come across a dead end with two dragon head torches opposite each other.

Turn the torches off and reignite them with lightning spells. Once both torches have blue flames, the wall behind them will disappear to reveal the hidden passageway. Go through and get ready to face some puzzles. If you’re unable to solve a puzzle correctly, you’ll have to battle against several undead enemies.

Chamber of Justice

The first puzzle you’ll come across is the Chamber of Justice puzzle. To get to it, go through the iron gate on your right. Then make your way through the door on the other side. Follow the path in front of you until you reach the puzzle.

You’ll see a shadowy figure in the center of the hexagon, surrounded by a bunch of stone tablets. In front of all this, there’s a stone statue of Balduran. Interact with it. Then cast Remove Curse on all the shadowy stone tablets surrounding the puzzle. This will reveal a bunch of paintings. They tell the story of a man caught stealing an apple. Your job is to pronounce a sentence equal to the crime.

To solve this puzzle, pick the painting named ‘The Cell’. Drag and move it to your inventory. Then approach the empty stone slot opposite it. Insert ‘The Cell’ here, and you’re done.

Chamber of Strategy

Head up some stairs from the Chamber of Justice puzzle and through a door. You’ll come across the Chamber of Strategy chess puzzle. You can solve this either using a strategy or brute force.

Speak to the stone statue in front. You’ll learn that you must destroy the black king piece within three actions. If you have Gale at your party, he will advise you on the moves to make. You can choose to either follow his advice or try to beat the game on your own.

But there’s a third, quicker option. Simply cast a lightning spell on the black king piece. This will instantly destroy it, completing the puzzle.

Chamber of Courage

To get to the Chamber of Courage, head through the door on the Chamber of Strategy’s left. Now, this chamber isn’t really a puzzle. It’s more of a survival exercise. Summon some companions and interact with the stone statue in front. He will explain the exercise and ask you to take the torch to begin.

Take the torch and get ready to survive the onslaught of enemies. You need to survive four rounds against elementals and myrmidons. Use attacks like Thunderwave to push enemies off the cliffside. Your summoned companions will be a great help here.

Chamber of Insight

After exiting the Chamber of Courage, make your way down the path directly opposite it. There’s a somewhat hidden path and the door behind a waterfall. Take it. Go through to enter the Chamber of Insight.

The Chamber of Insight puzzle features three shades of advisors and three books fluttering around them. Interact with the statue in front. You’ll learn that one advisor will lead the city to ruin. You must find and kill him.

To solve this puzzle, first switch to turn-based mode by clicking on your action bar’s hourglass button. Then cast Hold Monster or a similar spell on the flying books to make them fall down. Read the passages to learn about the different advisors’ outlooks. One of them will have a more sinister outlook. Eliminate this advisor.

How to Beat Ansur

Once you’ve completed all four Wyrmway puzzles, head to the main chamber. Here, you’ll encounter Ansur. But there’s a problem. He’s a rotting corpse. Awaken him to start the boss battle.

In this particular fight, you’ll want to ungroup your party members and reposition them individually. This will prevent Ansur’s melee attack from hitting multiple characters. Also, watch out for any blue circles on the ground. Ansur uses lightning to strike these areas.

Thanks to his Hoarding Energy effect, Ansur can charge up electricity before unleashing a devastating blast covering the entire arena. This is high enough damage to kill any unprotected characters below 50 HP. To negate this, bring along Gale or any other character with a Globe of Invulnerability spell. Press your attack once Ansur finishes casting.
