BG3 Mithral Ore Locations (Baldur’s Gate 3)

Baldur’s Gate 3 is the highly-anticipated third entry in the beloved Dungeons & Dragons-inspired RPG series developed by Larian Studios. Players find themselves infected with a mind-flayer parasite, thrust into a race against time to find a cure. This epic adventure is filled with choices, intricate combat, and a vast world inspired by the Forgotten Realms setting.

What is Mithril Ore

Mithril Ore is a rare and valuable crafting resource in Baldur’s Gate 3. Once you reach the Grymforge in the Underdark, you’ll gain access to the Adamantine Forge. This powerful forge can be used to craft some truly awesome armor and weaponry, but only if you’ve got the Mithril Ore to work with.

Where to Find Mithril Ore in the Underdark

The Grymforge area of the Underdark is your only source for Mithril Ore in Baldur’s Gate 3. Here’s where to look:

Adamantine Forge Path: There are two Mithril Ore deposits just a short hop off the main path as you approach the forge.

  • Northeast: The first is located to the left of the stairs leading down to the forge. Look against the cave walls where the forge operates, near coordinates (X: -556, Y: 277).
  • Southwest: The second deposit is further down the path, to the right after a short winding section. You can find it southwest of the forge entrance, on a small balcony-like area (around coordinates X: -642, Y:253).

Be prepared to fight! The area around the mithril deposits is guarded by some fiery foes known as Magma Mephits. They’re tough, immune to fire damage, and explode on death.

Extracting the Ore

Mithril Ore isn’t just lying around waiting to be picked up. Veins of ore are incredibly resilient, and you’ll need to smash them with powerful bludgeoning attacks to extract that precious metal. Here’s how:

  1. Strong Characters: Switch your party member to someone with a high Strength score (fighters, barbarians, etc.).
  2. Right Tool: Ditch finesse weapons – equip them with a heavy mace or warhammer.
  3. Smack it Good: Attack the Mithril Ore vein as if you were fighting an enemy. After a few good whacks, it’ll explode, leaving the ore for you to collect.

Those Magma Mephits like to throw fireballs. Equip fire-resistant armor or chug Potions of Fire Resistance for a smoother fight. Frost-based attacks like Ray of Frost are very effective against the Mephits.
