How To Defeat Yurgir

There are many creative ways to defeat Yurgir. Let’s discuss some of them below:

Make him kill himself

If you have a character with a really high Charisma and Persuasion score, you can convince Yurgir to kill his minions and himself. You’ll need a paladin, bard, or sorcerer for this.

To do this, start by steering the conversation to Yurgir’s pact with Raphael. Act like you dislike Raphael as well, and make Yurgir recite their contract. This is in the form of a poem. Once that’s done, the game will roll an Insight check for you. If you pass it, the poem’s last line will stick in your mind.

Question Yurgir on why Raphael wanted the Justiciars dead. And then in your next turn to talk, convince Yurgir that he still has an audience. There’s a DC 16 check here. If you pass it, Yurgir will kill his followers. Next, pass a DC 21 check to make Yurgir kill his pet displacer. And last but not least, pass one more DC 21 Persuasion check to make Yurgir kill himself.

Use bombs

Explosives are particularly useful in this fight. The first thing you can do is sneak up and line force bombs behind every hostile in the room. Then set them all off together using an arrow.

If that’s not your style, here’s a different strategy. Blitz the boss until he starts throwing explosives. Once the boss throws his 15 or so handbombs at you, use the Barbarian Karlach to throw them back. The bombs will explode on impact, resulting in massive AoE damage to both Yurgir and his minions.

Cast Spike Growth

This fight features lots of weak rats that can give you trouble due to their sheer number. If that’s the case with you and your party has a Druid or Ranger in it, have them cast Spike Growth on your party.

Spike Growth is a transmutation spell that shapes a piece of ground into hard spikes. Any creature walking on these takes 2-8 Piercing damage for every 1.5 minutes of movement. The rats will run into it and get obliterated instantly thanks to their 1hp.

Use a summoned creature

Remember the hand Gale can summon? You can send it or a similar summoned creature into the boss room as bait. Just send it in alone while your main party stays out of combat.

Use the hand to pick up Yurgir’s Umbral Gem and throw it. Then stay close by until Yurgir starts throwing his bombs at you. As they explode, they’ll take Yurgir down with them.
