JJK Episode 42 Yuji vs Mahito Explained

The upcoming episode will cover manga chapters 120-122. Nanami dies in chapter 120 of the manga.

He was killed by Mahito, a special-grade cursed spirit, in front of Yuji. In JJK Season 1, we saw that Mahito can manipulate the shape of souls.

However, his technique didn’t work on Yuji Itadori. Previously, Sukuna was controlling Yuji’s body. Sukuna kills Jogo, saves Megumi, destroys half of Shibuya, and defeats Mahoraga.

As soon as Yuji got his body back, he saw the flashbacks of the havoc that Sukuna caused in Shibuya.

He then starts crying and then suddenly becomes cold and realizes there is no other choice. He has to fight (Tatakai Tatakai) to save Gojo.

Mahito Kills Nanami

Nanami was badly hurt and half of his body was burnt by the Jogo’s blast. He was already badly hurt because of his battle with Dagon.

Nanami then sees the transfigured humans and he starts killing them. Out of nowhere, Mahito appears and touches Nanami.

Nanami realizes he is going to die. Yuji arrives at the same spot and sees Nanami and Mahito.

Mahito uses his cursed technique to destroy the upper half of Nanami and kills him in front of Yuji.

Yuji starts fighting Mahito

Yuji had a hard time processing it and then suddenly Mahito throws a transfigured human to stab Yuji. However, Yuji dodges it easily.

Mahito then creates a merged transfigured beast-like creature and hides inside it. Yuji tries to stop the creature. However, Mahito shows up from the inside of the beast and punches Yuji so hard that he goes flying.

Yuji then realizes the huge difference between their powers. He then manages to kick Mahito in the face. Mahito compliments Yuji on the kick and then uses transfigured humans to fight Yuji.

However, Yuji manages to evade Mahito’s attacks. Mahito comes up with a new cursed technique.

He can create his double, a shadow-clone-like ability. Mahito runs away somewhere in the station and Yuji loses sight of him.

Two Mahito’s in Battle

Yuji keeps looking for Mahito, on his way he encounters some people and asks them if they saw Mahito.

Mahito was actually hiding in one of them. He punches Yuji again and manages to land a hit on Yuji again.

Meanwhile, his double is also roaming around in Shibuya station. His double comes across Nobara who also happened to be passing by.

She realizes the cursed spirit is Mahito and she already knows his cursed technique. Nobara manages to damage Mahito by using her cursed technique. However, it didn’t inflict much damage.

Mahito then realizes that Nobara is actually someone Yuji cares about. He decides to kill Nobara.

Nobara won’t die in the JJK Episode 42. However, she will die the episode 43. Episode 42 is the adaption of manga chapters 120-122.

Final Words

The next episode is going to be the most emotional episode of the entire series. We will see Yuji grow in strength a lot in the episode. Yuji vs Mahito is the most awaited fight in the whole series. However, due to the MAPPA facing backlash and animators leaving their job, we should not keep our expectations high since it will be animated by some other animators.
